Remember the good old days when we could go for a sail?

That long thin pointy box in your garden isn’t just for storage! It can float and we used to have fun trying to coax it round a course faster that everyone else, or simply trying to keep the water on the outside of the boat rather than inside!

Those days will return, but probably not for a while yet.

Needless to say, The Lester Southerland Tiller weekend at Brancaster Staithe SC and the Overy Staithe Open meeting didn’t go ahead. Next in the calendar after that is the British Championship at BSSC on 26 – 28 June, but realistically that probably won’t happen either.

It would be a shame to miss the Brits for a whole year, so with any luck maybe we will sail the British over the weekend 26 & 27 September when we were due to be at Brancaster for the Les Dye weekend. We’ll keep you posted with our thoughts and plans as the weeks go by.

For anyone who was planning to go to Portugal for the Europeans, it looks highly likely that this will be postponed until next year. If this happens the host countries will all follow in the normal order – so Portugal in 2021, Holland in 2022, Germany in 2023, England in 2024. The Portuguese have said they will consult with the European Committee in mid-May to make a final decision and we will let you know as soon as a decision has been made.

So, no sailing for the foreseeable future, but no excuse to miss sailing when we’re allowed back out. I can’t believe anyone will have to stay at home to tend the garden!
